The goal was not to reinvent the user experience, but to evolve the technology architecture behind it. Distributors had to keep working in practically the same way, with a familiar and simple experience, while the company moved towards a much more robust, integrated model ready for growth. This way, the organisation keeps a single source of business information, avoiding parallel systems, duplication and disconnected processes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Options for building a B2B portal on Business Central<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When a company works with Dynamics 365 Business Central and wants to open a digital channel for its distributors, it usually considers three paths:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.revertis.com\/en\/d365-self-service-portals\">Custom portal connected via API<\/a>. It offers complete freedom of design and business logic. The portal does not store its own data: it reads and writes everything in Business Central. This is the approach taken in this project.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Power Pages. Microsoft&#8217;s low-code portal, quick to deploy in standard scenarios.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>B2B ecommerce with a connector. An online store synchronised with the ERP, useful when the focus is on the catalogue and the shopping cart.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The choice depends on how specific the B2B channel processes are and on the experience users already know. In this case, keeping the distributors&#8217; way of working intact was the deciding factor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Business Central as the single data source for the B2B portal<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The solution is based on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.revertis.com\/en\/d365-business-central\">Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central<\/a>, which acts as the central repository for the company&#8217;s commercial and operational information. Thanks to APIs and cloud services, information is updated immediately, ensuring users always work with current data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This model removes the need to replicate catalogues, customer lists or ordering processes on separate platforms. This project takes the opposite route.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Information and business rules stay in the ERP, but the portal offers a simplified, intuitive experience focused on the distributors&#8217; real needs. Each distributor gets an experience adapted to its commercial reality, seeing only the information, products or conditions that apply to it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This allows a single platform to offer differentiated experiences without developing multiple applications or maintaining different databases. The solution relies on a unified cloud architecture within the Microsoft ecosystem, making integration between platforms and the future evolution of the project easier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This approach divides responsibilities efficiently: Business Central manages business data, Azure provides platform capabilities and the portal delivers the specialised experience for the end user.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The result: a B2B architecture ready to grow<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Beyond the portal itself, the real value of the project lies in the technology model implemented. The organisation now has an architecture ready to add new digital services using the same existing data, processes and integrations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This kind of approach allows gradual evolution without having to rethink the platform every time a new business need arises.
